Places to eat Paella in the old town

They cook really nice paella valenciana as well as other rice preparations. Best to book a rice for two as is the minimum size of the pan. There are also other rice choices as well as meat and fish. The place is really nice with large reproduction of Sorolla paintings. The food in general is using local market products for preparation

This restaurant does not have the more traditional decorations and their menu includes more than rices which are superb.
Where to go for a drink?

Café Lisboa Food is not good but drinks and surroundings are nice.
Where to try Horchata?
The local non-alcoholic drink. It is called Horchata and is done from tigernuts in a small town close to the city. There is a very nice Horchatería in the old town quater. The place is also beautiful and is two centuries old Horchatería Santa Catalina

In the Old Town
In general the old town is beautiful with many gothic buildings, lost of nice streets to walk around, roman remains (and museum) and a very nice square where the cathedral and the regional government are situated. More concrete buildings to visit:
The Torres de Serrano. This were the main entrance to the city. They are beatiful from outside and can give you a glimpse on how the walls of the city were in medieval times. They are massive and were built after Muslims were finally expelled from Valencia. I really like them. As you walk to the place you will have the chance to see the old twon quarter streets, most of it of gothic architecture, it is really charming.
The Cathedral: Built on the site of a Roman temple, which later became a mosque the origins of the cathedral date back to the 13th century. It has various architectural styles, from the Romanesque to the baroque, as can be observed on the three doors: The main door, or Puerta de los Hierros, is baroque; the Puerta de los Apóstoles is gothic and the Puerta del Palau is Romanesque. The Miguelete belfry was built in the 13th and 14th centuries and was designed by Andrés Juliá Torre; it is octagonal, 50.85m high and built in a markedly baroque style, next to the main entrance. There is a spiral stairway inside that leads to the terrace, where there are views of the city, the countryside and the sea. The Santo Cáliz Chapel, the old Sala Capitular y de Estudios (1356) was originally a Chapter House and study and was separate from the cathedral. The Holy Chalice that according to tradition was used by Christ during the last Supper is kept inside. The "Obra Nova" or "Balconets de Cabildo" were built over three floors next to the cathedral dome and they dominate the Plaza de la Virgen. It was a renaissance work of a triple serlienne arcade.
The Lonja is an emblematic building of the city and one of the most famous civil gothic monuments in Europe. It was declared a National Historic and Artistic Monument in July1931 and was made a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in December 1996. The Lonja is located in the centre of the city - in front of the Central Market and the Temple of Santos Juanes - and occupies a rectangular area of 1.990 square metres. At the end of the 13th century, as a result of the prosperity in València at the time, the old Lonja became insufficient and it was decided to build a new Exchange. The first stone was laid in 1492, although the construction was started a year later. Pere Compte, a Valencian engineer and architect, was the principal figure involved in its construction. There are three clearly defined sections and a garden or “orange patio”. The Columnario or Sala de Contratación is divided into three longitudinal and five transversal naves with eight columns that support the domed ceiling. Its height of 17.40 meters gives the columns a special sense of size and proportion. The Taula de Canvis, set up in 1407, was located in this room by the municipal council and gained great prestige for its solvency and banking operations. The Taula or Table used for the transactions, as well as the first Bill of Exchange written in Spain are kept in the València Municipal archive. 
Mercado Central This great modernist building was designed in 1914, although the Central Market was not inaugurated until 1928. It consists of a ground floor with columns and vaults with a brick base and a basement. Both floors are organised into straight alleys, crossed by two main lanes along which the 959 stalls are set. The ceramic covered partitions along with the stone, wood, and the colourful glasswork make the building an excellent example of the modernist architecture of the time.
Church of San Nicolás. This attraction is really recent. The ceilings of the church have just been restored
(using bacteria among other things) and now look spectacular. It has quickly become one of the major
attractions of the city. The entrance is difficult to find so ask for it if you cannot find it.
The City of Arts and Sciences (La Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias) in València is a spectacular and imposing space designed by the architect Santiago Calatrava. This centre for leisure and culture, with its avant-garde architecture, is set firmly within the 21st century. At the Hemisfèric one can see the very latest Imax films; there is also a planetarium and an innovative laser show. The Príncipe Felipe Science Museum is located in a spectacular building and offers exhibitions where touching is permitted and where visitors can run all sorts of fascinating hands-on experiments. The Oceanogràfic reproduces all the ecosystems on the planet, with an astounding diversity of flora and fauna. The Palau de les Arts, with its spectacular oval-shaped design, is the place for seeing the best operas, concerts and stage performances. Lastly, the Ágora. This building was designed as a multifunctional, versatile space, suitable for hosting various different types of events.
Town Hall and Train Station: The town hall square is very nice with some buildings that I really like (the Postal office). In addition close to it you have the train station. It is a modernist building from early XXth's century and is one of the most beautiful you can see, particularly because of the decorative figures in the facade. If you enter please as soon as you cross the main entrance go to the smaller hall on the right where you will see beautiful painted ceramic walls.
The River: You will notice that the river is special in Valencia. We had frequent flooding in the city and after killing more than 40 person in 1952 authorities decided to divert the course by building a new one outside of the city. The old one had nothing for decades, no water and no use, just rats. But then in the 80
's it was decided to create a garden in what it was once the river course. The garden has grown and now you have more than 10 km with green spaces and different attraction. This includes museums, cafeterias, a running track for runners. It is just beautiful just to walk around particularly if you want to avoid the city noise. The river flanks the old-city so you can go down from the Torres de Serrano place and just walk towards the sea (making a right having the torres in your back)
Mercado de Colon, One of the most emblematic modernist buildings in the city. It was built in 1914 by Francisco de Mora y Berenguer. It is an open, circular area occupying the whole block and brings to mind the old awnings of the traditional market places. An important restoration project, working on the structure, brickwork, ceramic work and wood has returned the market to its former glory; the trencadís that decorates the original entrance is of special interest. The market is a city meeting point with its colourful, Valencian façade reminiscent of the modernist designs of Gaudí
Beach Valencia has a very nice beach where you can go and relax in a restaurant or having a drink in a terrace. In case you go there you need to take the bus or bike. So apart from walking the seaside promenade (it is several km long) there are some places where you can ejoy food or drinks.
For traditional Valencia fisherman food with a modern touch there are two absolutely recommended places, there is no way you can fail choosing a dish there, everything is delicious. In addition they are a little bit off from tourist routes, these neighbourhoods have been unattended for decades and only now are starting to recover. Some of the many places to eat on the beach are Bodega la aldeana or Bodega Anyora. Other nearby addresses La Fábrica de Hielo (The ice factory): this place is were ice was stored to keep fish dried when there was fishing back in the early 1900s'. Now is an industrial style bar by the beach. Very nice for drinks and they also serve food. The vibe is nice.
- Restaurante L'estimat. This one is more expensive than the other in the old town but food is really nice particularly the paella and it is by the seaside.
- Restaurante La Sucursal This one is also very nice, more up-scale but is seating ina futuristic building in the old Valencia harbour with views to the mediterranean sea. The building is called Veles e Vents and worth a visit too Also around the area is the marina where you ca seat and enjoy a drink facing the sea.
- La Más Bonita Patacona. If you walk or cycle away from the old harbour following the seaside there are many other places to go. But if you want to really enjoy the sun and a terrace with very nice food menu (including vegan food) and drinks the place to go is "La Más Bonita" (ie. the prettiest). There is one in Ruzafa but this one is in the seafront with nice inside patio and outside terrace. Again food is very nice with many healthy options
